Rorschach is a quintessential INTJ, driven by a dominant Introverted Intuition (Ni). This function manifests as a singular, obsessive vision of the world as a moral battlefield corrupted by compromise and evil. His Ni synthesizes patterns from seemingly disconnected events into a grand, pessimistic conspiracy, fueling his relentless investigation. He is not interested in multiple possibilities, but in the one, grim truth he believes he has uncovered, which he expresses through his iconic, definitive journal statements.
His auxiliary Extraverted Thinking (Te) is the tool he uses to execute his Ni vision. It provides his methodical, investigative rigor and his brutally efficient, pragmatic combat style. Te allows him to impose his internal order on the chaotic external world, but it is entirely subservient to his Ni-derived conclusions. He uses logic and facts, but only those that support his predetermined framework. This Te-Fi axis (with tertiary Introverted Feeling) creates his infamous moral code. His Fi is intensely personal and absolute, generating an internal value system of ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ that is utterly inflexible and disconnected from societal norms. His famous line, ‘Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon,’ is the ultimate expression of Fi-tert rigidity supporting a Ni-Te goal.
His inferior Extraverted Sensing (Se) is evident in his gritty, visceral engagement with the world’s filth and violence. He is constantly immersed in sensory horrors—blood, rain, garbage—which he endures with stoic disgust. This underdeveloped Se contributes to his lack of adaptability, present-moment hedonism, or aesthetic appreciation beyond his utilitarian mask. Interpersonally, his functions make him a profound isolate. He views relationships as liabilities and emotional displays as weaknesses, seeing others primarily as tools, obstacles, or corrupt entities. His growth area—which he utterly rejects—would involve integrating a healthier Se to appreciate nuance and reality beyond his vision, and developing Fe (extraverted feeling) to understand communal ethics and human connection.
