Rorschach is a classic, albeit extreme, ISTJ. His dominant Introverted Sensing (Si) is evident in his rigid adherence to a personal code formed from past traumas and experiences, most notably the horrific murder of a young girl. This code becomes an immutable internal framework through which he filters all new information. His world is governed by established facts and patterns from the past. His auxiliary Extraverted Thinking (Te) drives his need for decisive, often violent, action to impose order on a world he sees as chaotic and corrupt. He applies his ‘justice’ with ruthless, impersonal logic, viewing criminals as problems to be eliminated.
His tertiary Introverted Feeling (Fi) fuels the intense, personal conviction behind his moral code. While his actions appear coldly logical, they are powered by a deep-seated, subjective sense of right and wrong. This Fi, unmoderated by healthy Feeling development, manifests as righteous fury and an inability to compromise his values, even when it is pragmatic or necessary for the greater good. His inferior Extraverted Intuition (Ne) is his greatest weakness. He cannot tolerate ambiguity, multiple perspectives, or uncertain futures. Conspiracy theories overwhelm him, and he rejects any solution that isn’t a clear-cut application of his ‘never compromise’ rule, as seen in his final confrontation with Ozymandias.
As an Enneagram 1w9, his core drive is to be right, ethical, and to correct the imperfections of the world (Type 1). The wing 9 adds a withdrawn, solitary quality and a tendency to disconnect from his own emotional needs, channeling all energy into his crusade. His extremely low Openness and Agreeableness, coupled with very high Conscientiousness and Neuroticism, paint a picture of a man trapped in a rigid, anxious system of his own making, utterly incapable of adapting his worldview or collaborating meaningfully with others.
